Antognolla Castle
Many people staying at Gorgacce Rentals’ Villas on the Tuscany Umbria border are interested in playing some golf whilst on holiday here. When my friend Jim, who is a keen golfer, told me he was going play at the newly opened 18 hole Antognolla course, I decided to go along with him.

The course is set in a beautiful landscape, below the imposing Antognolla Castle and between Monte Acuto and Monte Tezio. It’s par 71 and has a total length of 6208 metres. You don’t have to be a member to play, the course is open every day and, to play 18 holes, it costs €50 per person on weekdays, €60 at the weekend. You can hire all your equipment when you get there.

Not being a golfer, I had to ask a few questions, Jim told me that the course is the best in Umbria and that it is reasonably challenging (see the film of Jim in the bunker!). He thought the entrance fee was very reasonable, but that golf buggy hire, at €40 (seats two), and driving range fees of €5 for 20 balls were high compared to American prices. He also told me that In the United States, a similar course would have been crowded on any day of the year, on the day we went, we saw one other golfer out on the course.
