A Week of Walking in Tuscany and Umbria

Walking on the Tuscany Umbria Border

I spent last week walking in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany and Umbria, all the walks are in my book, Circular Walks on the Tuscany Umbria Border, or are available as free downloads when you buy my book online. May is a beautiful time of year to walk in Tuscany and Umbria, everything is still very green after the spring rains and there are numerous wildflowers including many orchid species. Gorgacce Rentals’ Tuscany Villas & Umbria Villas are close to these walks and make an ideal base if you would like to do some of them.

Marzano Walk, Tuscany Umbria Border

On Sunday I visited Piero della Francesca’s Madonna del Parto in Monterchi, Tuscany. Afterwards we headed back into Umbria and did the nearby Marzano Walk close to the Tuscany Umbria border. There are incredible views for miles around, strangely shaped chestnut trees and the abandoned village of Marzano.

Last Monday I went to the small hilltop town of Montone in Umbria and did the Montone Long Walk. The countryside near Montone is beautiful, there are strange rocky landscapes, a beautiful castle with commanding views, wildflower meadows and oak woods. To finish off we went to L’Antica Osteria in the centre of Montone for a delicious lunch.
